The Opportunity to Impact:


The Director of Talent Management and Acquisition will report directly to the Director of People and Culture and will primarily be responsible for leading the re-imagination of MSF- USA’s performance management and development process, which is a significant priority for our organization.

You will develop as well as maintain effective programs for retention, promotion, and succession planning in ways that align with the overall mission, strategic objectives, and desired culture of MSF- USA. You will play a key role as well as lead initiatives in the areas of talent acquisition, learning and professional development, performance management, and employee relations.

The Director of Talent Management and Acquisition will play a key role in driving and supporting the talent agenda and designing and implementing critical career development experiences across the company to help employees grow and develop. You will also serve as a strategic partner to managers to help resolve issues, make informed decisions, navigate workplace dynamics, analyze and prioritize critical people challenges and drive career growth.

This is a new position for the People & Culture (P&C) team at MSF- USA


What You’ll Do:



Talent Management:


  • Create and implement strategies that promote the development of talent and engagement of staff. Using a DEI lens, modernize our approach to recruitment, onboarding, retention, training, leadership development, goal setting, performance management, and learning and growth opportunities
  • Run the performance management process: Provide professional expertise and support in the design, development, and implementation of the talent review process that is required to achieve organizational goals and outcomes.
  • Create an internal bench of top talent, including current job descriptions, standards of performance, and performance evaluation instruments and including assistance with the creation of development plans, tracking progress on development plans, monitoring succession plans
  • Create a 3-year professional development plan for employees
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of career development strategies, tools, and resources and provide a strategic plan for implementation of assessments (Hogan, Clifton Strengths, Working Genius, etc.)
  • Work with leaders and external providers to conduct evaluations and assessments and implement other related talent tools. Develop a strategy for follow-up.
  • Build an extended onboarding program that complements our current program
  • Develop, initiate, and maintain effective programs for workforce retention, promotion, and succession planning


Acquisition and Recruiting:


  • Develop and implement cost-effective talent acquisition strategies ensuring effective and creative sourcing, evaluation, and selection of the most qualified and diverse talent for your assigned entities/business units.
  • Direct and oversee the development, and implementation of all recruiting and talent acquisition programs to attract and retain staff while leveraging talent acquisition resources.
  • Develop appropriate metrics and tracking mechanisms, service-level agreements, and other planning and measurement tools to build accountability and measure results, impact, and cost-effectiveness of the hiring process and talent acquisition team.
  • Lead with a continuous improvement mindset, involving the talent acquisition team and hiring managers in identifying process improvements in our hiring practice that will reduce the time to fill and increase the quality of candidates/new hires, such as standardization of the hiring process and improved interviewing tools.
  • Ensure that every new hire has a positive, polished, and professional recruitment experience by creating an exceptional experience at each step of the recruitment process, collaborating with other People divisions and organization leaders to assure a smooth orientation handoff from talent acquisition to the hiring team.
  • Define and track key performance indicators and metrics to measure success and drive accountability. Continuously look for ways to simplify and drive process improvements and efficiencies.


Who You Are:


  • Significant experience across a broad spectrum of People (Staff) including talent management, acquisition, and project management.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting organization-wide talent management programs as well as identifying and implementing key organizational initiatives. assessments; SkillSurvey reference tool, etc.
  • Demonstrable Diversity, Equity & Inclusion experience, or certification
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships, engage others, and influence outcomes
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Experience leading the implementation of system-wide recruitment technology and/or recruitment marketing initiatives, including ATS, SEO Sites, Career sites; pre-employment
  • Ability to set direction and vision for major departments or multiple departments. Establishes priorities, develops policies, and allocates resources.
  • Ability to address problems that are broad, complex, and abstract
  • Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Strong presentation, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Thorough understanding of recruiting methods and best practices, as well as applicable policies and federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field required


Desirable (but not required):


  • Advanced Degree HR leadership experience in the Humanitarian Aid sector and/or non-profit and/or in large/complex organizations.
  • LEAN or Six Sigma experience improving HR processes and customer experience.
  • Workday experience is a plus.

  • Hybrid Work Environment- September- June 2 days required in the office currently, Tuesdays and Wednesdays across 3 locations (NYC, Washington, DC, and Oakland CA); July & August fully remote.
