We welcome candidates who bring a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences to join us in working toward MSF’s common mission.

Department

Our dynamic Development Department is responsible for raising over $500 million annually to support the mission of the organization.

In the Development Department, the Major Gifts team is responsible for raising nearly $95 million from major donors.

Project

Reporting to the Director of High Touch Audiences, the Director of Major Gifts manages a national donor portfolio of $25,000+ level donors to raise more than $100 million annually. This role leads a team of Major Gift Officers to grow major donor relationships from a pool of 1,200+ high-wealth prospects, retaining and stewarding these donors to upgrade giving. The ideal Director of Major Gifts is an innovative frontline-fundraiser who has experience growing a major donor base, inspiring a team, executing fundamental major-donor fundraising processes, and engaging directly with donors to solicit and acquire transformational-level gifts.

This is an unique opportunity for a development professional with success in both management and individual major-gifts fundraising to run a crucial development function at a premier humanitarian organization. The Director of Major Gifts will be responsible for ensuring that his/her team is a focused, productive and proactive unit that meets or exceeds its fundraising goals. Working closely with other senior development managers, researchers, channels leads, and communications and program staff, the Director of Major Gifts and their team are expected to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward high-value donors in support of MSF-USA.

The successful candidate will bring formal high-touch fundraising experience, a proven process, an entrepreneurial spirit, and the desire to seize funding opportunities with confidence and speed.

  • Front-line Fundraising: Personally cultivate and steward major gifts prospects with an identified gift level of $100K and up. Meet one-on-one with prospects/donors and coordinate program staff and volunteers in the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts prospects.
  • Donor Engagement Strategies: Design and implement overall engagement and fundraising strategies as part of the broader Development team, to continue the exponential growth of individual gifts at all levels. Assist other department staff on special projects or efforts that contribute to the organization’s larger development goals.
  • Represent MSF-USA: Effectively represent and articulate the work of MSF, presenting a compelling case for support of the organization.
